Owner: Dennis Jackson 1992TT 5spd 555cc injectors stock intercoolers JSPEC Engine (using JSPEC cams and turbos - same as our automatic cams and turbos) Divorced Downpipes Testpipes DOOLZ Dual Intake Greddy Profec-B Spec2 Boost ControllerThis car came in to Z1 for engine replacement, 555cc injectors, and a few other items to be installed. A pressurized boost leak test was performed and all leaks were eliminated. This pull was made on PUMP fuel, 15 degrees of static timing (at the CAS), PFR6B-11B plugs gapped to 0.035", and running 16psi of boost. NO TUNING WAS PERFORMED, this car is only equipped with an AshSPEC 555cc program for his mods. While getting the boost controller dialed in, a couple of pulls generated 400ft/lbs of torque spiking to ~18.5psi and no detonation was heard, but this is an unsafe boost level on pump fuel. A few pulls were made at 17.5psi, but the engine being heatsoaked caused some audible detonation when this was tried. So we settled for 16psi and this was the result:
This car is running at our target A/F for street use of 11.5:1, as were the cars that were used to develop this program. Boost leaks are the #1 killer of power as this results in a much richer A/F ratio - it also leaves soot on your tailpipe and bumper! If you have this program and are experiencing anything other than what you see here (within reasonable tolerance of power and torque), then you definately have a fuel issue that needs to be addressed. FWIW, 10 out of 10 cars that come through our shop have boost leaks, 8 of 10 having a significant boost leak that actually need to be addressed. Dont think you dont have boost leaks, I'd be willing to bet $10 that you do! =) (BTW, I'm not *actually* placing a bet here, you get my point. ;-) I hope this post is not recieved as some sort of advertisement of gloating of a product - my intention is simply to let those with the program know what they should be seeing. This should serve as a diagnostic tool for you, but hopefully you completely inspect and resolve any issues in your car before you take it to the dyno. =)
